Free running plans FAQ

Are these running plans really free?

Yes. Every plan Run-R builds is free, with no signup, no card and no trial. Display ads pay for the site.

Can I download a printable PDF of my plan?

Yes. Download it as a PDF, add it to your calendar, or keep the plan link, which opens it on any device.

Which distances do you cover?

Couch to 5K, 5K, 10K, half marathon and marathon, in kilometres or miles.

How is this different from Hal Higdon or Nike Run Club plans?

A Hal Higdon plan is a fixed template: everyone on it gets the same weeks. Run-R builds yours from your race time, your running days and your race date, with no app to install. The comparison pages go into the detail.

Do I need a smartwatch?

No. Paces are shown per km or per mile, so any GPS watch, phone app or treadmill works.

Are the plans safe?

Most of the running is easy. Weekly distance rises by no more than 10%, no run is more than 10% longer than your longest of the last four weeks, and every third or fourth week is easier. If you have a health condition, check with a doctor before you start.

What if my schedule changes?

Update your plan with a new race date, new days or a new result, and the weeks ahead re-plan from today.
